These don't need to be paired like shampoo & conditioner. You should only use one at a time, but many customers use both products on alternate days. When you're sweaty and need more of a clean, use the shampoo light bar. When you want more moisture and flow that day, use the mud.

Whether you use one or the other or both, it's all about finding the right routine for your own hair needs.

We'd say no, but do what works for you. Our typical customer is using modern mammals most days per week with nothing else, but we have some users shampooing once a week still. It depends on a lot of factors, like hair length, how much you sweat, and if you use a lot of styling product. We are sure you know more about your hair than we do, and we think you should figure out what works best for you.

Our philosophy on choosing ingredients was to find the lightest, best performing ingredients to keep your hair and head in their natural balance. While we were initially skeptical of the scary names like 'alcohols,' we dug into it with more hair scientists. For some ingredients, we found that the strange names were the gentlest and best for your head, which is what matters most. And so you know, all the Modern Mammals employees use the product too, so trust that we will only ever make it the best that we can.

Rather than strip the hair clean and then coat it (shampooing & conditioning), our goal is to try and keep your natural oils in balance. This means we don't distort your pH balance and natural oils like a shampoo would. Unlike shampoos, our products don't have harsh detergents that suds up and dry out your head and hair. Unlike conditioner, they don't leave hair limp and frizzy. Instead, they lightly clean your hair and scalp, cleansing hair while protecting its strength and texture.
