Magic Mud

I've never really worried about hair products, have dipped and dabbled into various shampoos, shampoo/conditioners, etc., and shave my head. I also don't write a lot of reviews. Furthermore, I'm pretty skeptical about every product. However, despite shaving my head, I've been growing my beard, had noticed some follicle problems (namely hairs getting tangled with each other or else dirt and sweat infecting various pores), and I got bombarded by enough Modern Mammals ads to say "why not give it a whirl?" This product is worth the money and works on beards as much (I would imagine) as it does the hair on top of your head. The results are immediate: you come out of the shower with soft hair that has basically styled itself. Feels great going on, smells pleasant without being bombastic about it, makes for minimal effort after you get out of the shower. I've had basically none of the problems before this product, after using it. Don't know what science or black magic goes into this stuff, but would highly recommend it to anyone.

Its my second time buying the starter bundle and i tell you it has done wonders for my hair. Looks fuller and healthier then ever before.

Okay I’ll give a short and long version of my review. In short, their claims of maintaining a good balance of natural oils while cleaning you hair are TRUE. The scent is gentle and fades fairly quickly which I appreciate since I prefer to wear cologne. 10/10 from me.

Now the long version.
A bit about me, I’m in my late 20’s and of Asian and European descent. My hair is prone to getting oily and greasy if I don’t shampoo every time I shower (once a day sometimes twice if I’m working out).
I experienced some troubling hair thinning and began experimenting with various shampoos (different brands like Moroccan oil, Ouai, and some salon recommended brands) but none of them were able to restore my hair’s former volume and strength.

Given that I’m very obsessive with my hair, I counted the strands that I’d lose with a shower drain filter.
Prior to modern mammals I was losing anywhere from 25 to 40 strands of hair every wash.
After just a week of Modern Mammals, I saw a dramatic reduction in hair in my filter 7 to 11 per wash, which is well below the norm for men my age. (I know it’s absolutely normal to lose some hair in a wash but the metrics matter)

The feel of my hair after shampooing with Modern Mammals was more like second days hair. Very soft, voluminous, and a natural sheen to it that you can’t recreate with shampoo and conditioner.

After examining strands of hair under my AmScope B120, a direct comparison of hair collected when using other shampoos (examined at time of collection to mitigate deterioration of the sample from affecting my data) and hair collected after using Modern Mammals was done. Both samples were taken after hair was air dried approximately one and a half hour after washing.

Other shampoos had a range of 34-54 micrometers in width.
After a week of Modern Mammals I was shocked to see my hair regained strength and density with strands ranging from 47-71 micrometers in width.

Anyone who’s read this far probably thinks I’m obsessive about my hair, but I just have too much time and access to lab equipment at the university I’m working at. But what started as a “eh why not” purchase from an instagram ad, became an experiment that changed the way I look at hair care.

The natural and simple ingredients in Modern Mammals have breathed new life into my hair and I’m genuinely advocating for all of my friends and family to ditch the detergent in favor of their magic mud!

I can’t speak to all hair types, but Modern Mammals was, is, and will always be the only “shampoo” for me!

I am not normally one to write back or review things I have purchased, but I wanted to make an exception for your product Shampoo Light. Since I was little, I struggled with a combination of dandruff-ridden hair and excess oil. I've tried many, many different shampoos to try and remedy this, but nothing seemed to work. And, lately, I've been trying to make an effort to move closer to natural when it comes to what I wear and the products that I use on myself; many of the ingredients in big-name shampoos are very daunting and irritating. I eventually stumbled upon your company in my search, and decided to give it a try, and after a few days, I was absolutely floored. My hair felt light for the first time in my life, it's so silky, and so shiny! I know your product is more marketed towards men, but that does not take away from the fact that it worked incredibly on me! I love the lack of perfume/scent, the light lather is just enough, and it take a lot of time out of the hair-washing process. The bar itself is great as well because I don't like having numerous bottles of plastic junk in my bathroom. In conclusion, I just wanted to give you an enormous thank-you; it may just be my hair you're helping, but it means to world to me. 10/10!

Amazing stuff. Keeps hair clean without the frizz or poof from regular-ass shampoo. I live in the desert so lots of sweat and dirt build up quick, but I can use this everyday if necessary.

I've never used a soap like this before. I was a bit skeptical. I was very pleasantly surprised. It works really well, doesn't leave any friziness or dry hair. Don't even need conditioner. Definitely recommend.

I recently wrote a review about how happy I am with the Mud shampoo!. Then I read other reviews, and it seems like this product leans towards men’s marketing more? Maybe b/c Pete Holmes promotes it? Anyway, I’m a woman, in my 50’s, and with all natural gray hair, this product saved me! Soft, wavy, healthy. Game changer and women need to learn about this product big time!

I gave my hair time to adjust to the new shampoo (Mud) before reviewing. It’s honestly a game changer for my hair! Flakiness and itching almost gone. Texture of my naturally gray, fine, but slightly wavy hair is feeling like a newborn’s! I highly recommend, but some folks might need patience to adjust. I’m used to not shampooing every day, so for me, it already fitted my approach to hair care and a natural approach. Anyway, big fan! Also, a little goes a long long way, so the value is unsurpassed compared to more expensive “brands”. Bravo!

I like it. Both my sons like it. You may hate it the first time you try to use it. But let it dry and then see the results. Its very unique. Exceptional product.

Modern Mammals is the absolute best! I’ve used the Shampoo bar and the liquid mud. Both are amazing! The shampoo bars definitely get your hair clean but without drying it out. I definitely recommend!

Great customer service! I got the starter bundle. There was an issue with the bottle of magic mud. During shipping it was damaged and had a hole in it. Customer service was fantastic! A replacement was shipped to me so fast and no hassle! This stuff is awesome! Like described online the shampoo bar is more like normal shampoo but is so much better. The magic mud is my favorite though! So good!
